West Brom are on the verge of gaining promotion back to the top-flight with their fate firmly in their own hands should the season resume anytime soon, so we’ve delved back to some of the pre-season predictions and found this golden call from talkSPORT.
What’s been said?
The Baggies are sat in second place, one point behind league leaders Leeds and six points in front of the playoffs with only nine games remaining. It’ll surely only take a catastrophic collapse to stop their two-year absence from the Premier League.
Popular radio broadcasters talkSPORT published an ultimate guide to the 2019/20 season back in July where they claimed the west Midlands side would make the playoffs with summer signing Kenneth Zohore proving to be the key man for Slaven Bilic.
Here’s what they predicted…
Flopped
Well not only are Albion exceeding their expectations, but they are doing so through a range of different dangermen, such as Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana and Jake Livermore – not Zohore.
The 26-year-old has been a rather expensive flop this term instead.
He cost a massive £8m from Cardiff City in the summer, which is over double what they paid Southampton for Charlie Austin and just a tad less than what they’ll pay Sporting Lisbon for Pereira.

In return, the Baggies have received a poultry three league goals – that’s £2.6m per goal.
Meanwhile, the flamboyant Brazilian has brought an enigmatic and lethal presence to the Hawthorns for just £1m more. He has directly contributed to 22 goals in only 33 matches, better than anyone else in the Albion squad.
In fact, Zohore averages the lowest match rating (6.43) of any player who has started five or more games in the Championship this term as well as the lowest shots per game of Bilic’s striking trio, via WhoScored.
Key man? More like disaster man.
Who the heck is that?! Can you name all of these obscure West Brom players…
And in other news, West Brom can’t lose this STAR amid PL interest…
