According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves are facing fresh competition from Huddersfield Town for AC Milan’s star striker Andre Silva.
What’s the story?
Silva only joined AC Milan last summer from Porto for a fee around £34million and the Portuguese youngster has since scored 10 goals in 40 appearances for the Italian club.
However, the Rossoneri are keen to offload players having failed to meet UEFA’s financial fair play regulations which could see them barred from the Europa League.
Silva is one of the players Milan are keen to offload and could be available at a knock-down price of £27million.
With the player called up to the Portugal World Cup squad, it is thought that his future will not be resolved until after the tournament, but competition for his signature is hotting up with Huddersfield and Monaco also rumoured to be interested.
Jorge Mendes has reportedly held talks with Milan about the possibility of Silva joining Wolves, but Italian journalist Alessandro Sugoni said the most recent contact came from Huddersfield.
Silva is valued at £22.5m by transfermarkt.com.
A risk worth taking?
It is clear that Andre Silva has talent having amassed nearly 100 club appearances for Porto and Milan, scoring 34 times along the way.
However, his tally of two goals in 24 league appearance for AC Milan this season should cause some concern and it must be questioned why Milan are so keen to offload the hot prospect instead of their old guard.
His international record fares better with 12 goals in 22 games, and if he puts in a good World Cup display, his price could soar, so Wolves would do well to lock him down soon.
A fee of £27million is by no means cheap, but if Silva makes good on the promise he has shown early in his career, it could soon prove to be a bargain and the sort of player that could ensure Wolves cement their place in the top flight.
